Fifth place
It’s been quite a crazy day.
Maia first wrestled girl who ended up winning the number two position. The girl was quite amazing and Maia was pinned in the second round.
She next wrestled the girl that ended up as number three. She dominated the first round and was ahead 2:0. In the second round she was ahead 5:2 when the girl managed to pin her. We all very disappointed since we thought Maia could beat this girl.
But Maia doesn’t give up easily and in her last match for the fifth spot, she was ahead 12:2 when she pinned her opponent. On one hand we’re a little disappointed because we thought she could have had the third place, but on the other hand, this is nationals. The girls here both good athletes, and impressive wrestlers.
Fifth place in the nation ain’t bad.
I’m still a very proud dad. Both for maia’s amazing wrestling skills and her great attitude.
I’ll try to put up more photos and maybe a couple of movies in the next couple of days when we’re back home.
Update from the first day
Maia won both her matches today by pins.
Here are pictures from both her matches. Click on the images to see full size photos.

Second match.

The second match was much more exciting since the girl looked strong, fierce and skilled. Still, Maia took her down quickly with an impressive take down and then dominated the rest of the match.
Tomorrow her first match will be against the number two seed who looked like she’s very strong and quite capable though not as technical as Maia. We have strong hopes for our girl.
Semi Finals Here We Come
Whoo-hoo. Maia won both her matches today! More details, photos, and movies later. Time to feed the champ and her entourage.
Getting ready
We got in last night and Maia got to weigh in and was seeded 3rd in her weight class.
She got a “bye” on her first match, which means that she’s not wrestling in the first round.
While we’re waiting, we got to watch the elementary school weight class 43 pounds wrestle!
The California State Champ
If you haven’t heard yet, Maia is the California state champion in the 165 pounds weight class. As the proud parent of a wrestling champion who is going to the nationals, I felt it my duty to create this blog where people can keep track of how Maia is doing.
A Albany Highe Cougar Article about Maia.
A movie showing Maia’s state championship match.
I’ll update this blog during the next few days with results from the nationals.
